Who needs a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)?
Certain categories of temporary workers require employers to obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) before applying for a work permit. An LMIA, issued by Employment and Social Development Canada, permits companies to hire temporary workers.
How long does LMIA approval take?
LMIA processing times vary from 15 days to several months depending on circumstances. A precise and thorough application accelerates the process. Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) guarantees a ten-day processing time for three categories: highly demanded jobs, short-term employment of 120 days or less, and high-paying positions not in the top 10%. Upon approval, ESDC issues a confirmation letter or valid LMIA, allowing companies to hire foreign workers when no Canadians are available. The individual can then apply for a work permit.
How Long is LMIA Valid?
